8.2.03 - Day with friends at the 2003 Annual Aloha Festival  at the San Francisco Presidio.  Hosted by the Pacific Islanders' Cultural Association.  Ono grinds and fun times.  Managed to meet Kim Taylor Reece (http://www.kimtaylorreece.com/), who to anyone that has stepped into my house knows, I am a huge fan of his Hawaiian Hula photography - so this was a great chance to meet him.  Kim Taylor has a beautiful gallery on the windward side of Oahu that Dayna and I got to visit  (and was the first time I got to talk to Kim about his work and photography methods - Kim's just a great great individual and an influential artist). (http://www.kimtaylorreece.com/galleries.htm)

12.13.03 - The Halau Na Wai Ola  (http://www.nawaiola.com/) Winter Charity Hula show to benefit the City of Cupertino.  Held at their Halau located in Cupertino, California, "The Living Water" performed both Christmas favorite and Traditional and Contemporary Island songs - performers included students, Dayna  and Melanie  (Shot with Canon 10D and Canon 70-200 f/2.8L and 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lenses)

1.9.04 - The 2004 Motor Trend International Car Show at the San Jose Convention Center.  All the auto manufactures were on hand to show off their 2004 and 2005 lineup of cars, trucks, and SUV's.  Concept cars like the Ford GT were on hand as well as some concepts that have gone to reality, like the Chevy SSR - Thanks to the professional look of the Canon equipment, I was able to get behind the ropes and check out the Ferrari F50 and 360 Spyder up close while everyone else was kept at bay.  (Shot with Canon 10D - 24-70 f/2.8L USM lens)

1.17.04 - Import Motion 2004 roars into San Mateo, California, for its first stop of the 2004 show season.  Top Manufactures and tune up shops showcasing there best in this one night event.  In addition, Import Models provided entertainment and photo ops in the Model Expo portion of the show, so yeah, after we found that area, we were asking ourselves, really, there are cars here??.  Appearances by Missy Malonzo and Felicia Tang helped to dress up even the most lacking of import mods.  (Shot with Canon 10D - 24-70 f/2.8L USM lens)

3.6.04 - Shawn's Wedding (who could believe it) - It was a perfect day in the Arizona Spring to meet Huff's girlfriend, fiancé, and wife - all in the same day.  Allie and Shawn  hosted one of the best weddings that I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of.  This was the type of wedding that people strive for, and in its simplicity, perfectly captured their love and their union.  Held at Ashley Manor in Chandler, AZ.  Really could not ask for anything more for one of my best friends.  We ended up staying in AZ for a couple more days - check out the shots from Sedona here.  (Shot with Canon 10D, 28-200 f/2.8L USM lens)

5.23.04 - Had the pleasure of attending Ron and Jeannette's wedding held at Charminade at Santa Cruz, California.  Was a beautiful May day with picturesque landscape views that made for a spectacular location to hold the wedding.  Was the first Volleyballer's wedding I have been to, and proved to be a lot of fun.  Just goes to show you what happens when you get good people together to celebrate a friends marriage day.  We won't mention the festivities afterwards to avoid embarrassment for those involved - and we know that Dowdy for one had a good time.  Okay, he was a good sport about it at least!! Congrats to the newlyweds!!!! .... (Shot with Canon 10D, 24-70 f/2.8L USM lens)

5.29.04 - Air Show at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Mountain View, California. The United States Air Force Thunderbirds were in attendance and put on quite a show (http://www.airshownetwork.com/home.html) - first appearance at Moffett Field since 1988.  Was a great day out on the tarmac viewing the planes on display as well as watching the show in the sky.  From Vintage P-51 Mustangs to the pride of the US Air Force, the F-15 Eagle.   (Shot with Canon 10D, 70-200 f/2.8L USM with Canon 2X lens)

6.5.04 - the 2004 Olympic Qualifier for the US Judo team and the US taekwondo team was at the San Jose State Events Center this weekend. The Winners of this event would go on to fill the 11 berths on the U.S. Judo Team and two berths on the U.S. Taekwondo Team for the Athens Olympic Games (Shot with Canon 10D, 200 f/1.8L USM with Canon 2X lens)

6.6.04 - The 2004 running of the "Escape from Alcatraz" Triathlon sponsored by Tri California (http://www.tricalifornia.com).  The Course starts with an 8am start of the 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz island to the SF marina, then a 1 mile warm up run to the transition area, followed by an 18 mile bike course and ending with and 8 mile run to Baker Beach.  Simon Lessing of Great Britain  won the Mens event with a course time of 01:54:41.  Michellie Jones of Australia won the womens side of the event with an overall time of 02:08:54.  We were also there to help cheer on John Yong who was participating in the event.  We did not see his name in the top10 finishers, but we are confident he was not that far off the pace (for those keeping track, John's official time was 03:02:49).  (Shot with Canon 10D, 70-200 f/2.8L USM)

7.4.0L4 - 4th of July and time to head back to Shoreline Golf Course to watch the Mountain View Firework display (next time I'll be sure to take more pictures of the people that went too!) - Lance, Jenn, myself, Dayna, Lowe, Doreen, Vinny, Gil, Connie, Amy (her first 4th of July!), Kari, Shawn, Eva, and Marlon braved the dropping temperature and cold wet grass for some spectacular views of the fireworks - good times with some great friends.  Will be sure to be back next year...(Shot with Canon 10D, 14-40 f/4.0L USM)

7.9.04 - Big Unit and his Arizona buds were in town against the SF Giants at Pac Bell Park.  Dayna scored us (Lance, Vinny, Gil, and Melisa too) some great seats out in Barry Bond's territory of left field.  A dropped fly ball by Luis Gonzalez led to two unearned runs in the fifth inning and helped propel the Giants past the Diamondbacks, 8-3, in front of a sellout crowd at SBC Park.  Bonds received his 68th intentional walk of the year, tying his own single-season record. He ended up scoring anyways, and as a result, the Giants moved into second place in the National League West. At the end of the inning, there appeared to be an altercation in the Arizona dugout as television replays showed Gonzalez and Johnson exchanging words before both disappeared into the dugout tunnel. "I'm not going to comment on that," Johnson said of the incident. (Shot with Canon 10D, 70-200 f/2.8L and Canon 2x extender)

7.17.04 - The 9th Annual AACO Sports Day for Charity was held at Greer Park in Palo Alto, California.   (http://www.aaco-sf.org).  Turn out was good for this Reverse Coed Format 4's Tournament.  Team BOF was comprised of myself along with Silvia, Mary, and Lucas.  We finishing first in our pool, only to get knocked out first round in playoffs - but it's okay, the sun was getting to us, and we had a good enough day for us to not NEED to go on...(at least, that's our story) - Pics were of Brian's team (Lowe, Lance, Diana, and Liza) and Vinny's team (Vinny, Eva, Dowdy and Melisa) - assorted pics of Dan, Brian, Jae, and Fang included as well.  (Shot with Canon 10D, 70-200 f/2.8L USM)

7.25.04 - 2004 AVP Hermosa Beach Tour stop for the 2004 Nissan season (http://www.avp.com/).  Through a truly spectacular hook-up through Sabrina, we got VIP tickets courtside, providing a professional photography vantage point, as well as an "Ideal" viewing point as a spectator.  With Dayna and Brent Dias in attendance, we got to witness Karch still playing with the young guns and retaining his number one ranking despite coming in second for the tournament with partner Mike Lambert.  Karch and Lambo fought back through the contender's bracket eventually meeting up with second seed Todd Rogers and Sean Scott, who was up til this match, undefeated in the winner's bracket.  After a heated match, Karch and Lambo fought back and earned a slot in the finals.  Eric Fonoimoana and partner, Kevin Wong, cruised through their side of the bracket to reach their semifinal match against the Florida duo of Phillip Dalhausser and Nick Lucena (who posted an impressive run taking wins over both US 2004 Athens bound, Metzger/Holdren and Blanton/Nygaard.  With their win, Fonoi and Wong went through the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record to reach the finals.  With a final score of  22-20 and 21-19, Fonoi and Wong proved to outplay and outlast Karch and Lambert (and Karch was suffering from a separated shoulder injury that he got at the 2004 Belmar tournament)  Nonetheless, the games were nothing short of spectacular.  (Shot with Canon 10D, 70-200 f/2.8L USM)

9.27.04 - The 9th Annual Northern California International Dragon Boat Festival at Lake Merced, San Francisco (http://www.cdba.org/) was held this weekend.  Debbie's dragon boat team, the Bay Area Dragons (http://www.bayareadragons.org/) was competing against teams from all around the United States and Canada in this two day event.  The morning was banked in with your typical San Francisco fog, pushing back the morning races.  However, as the day progressed, it proved to be a dynamic and sunny day of racing.  Debbie's women's team finished second overall and her mixed squad finished first in the consolation bracket - Debbie walked away from the event with two medals.   (Shot with Canon 10D, 200 f/1.8L and 2x converter USM)

10.3.04 - The California International 2004 Air show in Salinas, California (http://www.salinasairshow.com/).  Scheduled over two days, Saturday proved to be bright with blue skies - perfect flight conditions.  Sunday, when we went, was not.  However, we did get to see the scheduled Blue Angles perform an ever impressive solo fly by before they packed up ship due to poor weather conditions and grounded the rest of the aircraft show.  Don't these things fly in bad weather out in battle?  Okay, fine, safety first.  However, not to be deterred, Dayna, Dowdy, and myself stuck it out, and had a good time nonetheless.  (Shot with Canon 10D, 200 f/1.8L USM)

10.16.04 -  The final stop of the 2004 AVP season culminated on the sands of West Beach, Santa Barbara, California  (http://www.avp.com/).  We got tickets for both days of competition which proved to be well worth the price of admission.  Fonoimoana has competed with three different partners since 2002 and he has won his inaugural tournament with each of those three, including the 2004 Santa Barbara Invitational presented by Bud Light. He teamed with Mike Lambert for the first time and went undefeated against a tough field in claiming the title. On the women's side, Misty May / Kerri Walsh became the United States' all-time winningest duo with their 31st career win together. Through the rain and mist, the event was a blast.  Even managed to get ourselves on TV for the event!  (South Bayers there were:  Myself, Dayna, Lance, Jenn, Lowe, Doreen, Dowdy, Eva, Jennifer, Liza, Diana, Nghi, Bern, Marc, Kelly, Melisa, Jim, Michelle, Andrew, Paul, Hank, Fanger, and of course SILVIA- come to think of it, who wasn't there?   (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII, 70-200 f/2.8L USM)

11.7.04 -  Kumu Hula Association of Northern California presents the 24th Annual Ia ‘Oe E Ka La Hula Festival & Competition (http://www.kumuhulaassociation.com).  We attended the last day of competition and saw performances in Keiki, Wahine, Kane, Gracious Ladies (aka Kupuna).  Dayna, Doreen, Lowe, and myself enjoyed the Aloha spirit from the food, to the crafts and competition.  Unlike other competitions I have seen in other events and disciplines, this competition was more of a demonstration of how much love and passion the performers had for their artistry and I hope these images capture that spirit.  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII, 70-200 f/2.8L USM)

3.20.05 -  I guess Kari and Shawn figured, what better way to share a sunset with friends and family, then to throw in a wedding too?  :)  - Shawn and Kari invited us to attend their wedding on the Big Island of Hawai'i today, and that was an invitation that we just could not pass up.  Hey, we'd still have gone if it was held in Detroit or something, but we'd just have way less pictures to share and a lot more grumbling...(no offense to those from Detroit, but honestly, I've been there - haha)  The Hualalai resort was absolutely beautiful as was the bride on this great day.  Congrats to you both, Kari and Shawn, and thanks for having us there to help share the love!!! (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII, 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

5.21.05 -  AVP fans around the States heed the call, "The tour is coming to town," and  we're not missing it - especially when the tour stop is in the old stomping grounds of Santa Barbara!  Using the trip as a surprise for Lowe's birthday, we kidnapped the young guy and headed down to the sun and surf.  Jeff, Vinny, Myself, Dayna, Lance, Doreen, Lowe, Dowdy, Frank, and Liza all headed down for our stay at the Fess Parker (watch out for security, they're ball breakers at 3am in the morning at the hot tub!).  With great friends, as usual, it proved to be a fun filled trip.  Aside from the Full moon we saw on the drive (courtesy Jeff), the copious amount of Methane expelled, our Mexican Club dinner, and the ill effects of SPF4, we had an awesome time (check out coverage on Fox Sports net, and you'll get a face full of your's truly!).  SB resident Dax Holdren and partner Jeff Nygaard took home their first 2005 AVP win over fellow Santa Barbarian Todd Rogers (ex-Gaucho Setter) and partner Sean Scott. Women's side was taken down once again by the ever impressive Gold Medalist Misty May and Kerri Walsh.  Next Tour Stop, San Diego!!!   (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII, 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

7.31.05 -  The much anticipated inaugural racing of the San Jose Taylor Woodrow Grand Prix was held today through the streets of San Jose.  With over a week of preparation, construction, and competition, the big race was at hand this Sunday afternoon.  With over 150,000 race fans over the course of the weekend showing up, this California stop on the Champ Car circuit proved to be a big fan draw - and the heat definitely did not steer them away .  Visibility was limited for a lot of the track, but through a friend, managed to get access to Pit lane during setup as well as the race paddock area.  Getting up close to these champ cars was great as you definitely get a feel for the sure speed and performance these machines are build for.  Then met up with Lance who was there with friends and managed to get into the sponsors luxury boxes where we were treated to free lunch, water, beer and a clear overlook onto Pit Lane and the finish line.  Position1 1 Car 2 Sebastien Bourdais took home the checker flag with 2-3 Paul Tracy in second and 3-2 Oriol Servia in third.   (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII, 70-200 f/2.8L USM)

7.8.05 -  Laguna Seca plays host to the US MotoGP Grand Prix 2005 (http://www.redbullusgrandprix.com/), kicking off a return of GP racing to the US since 1994.  Was a great practice day for racing, with the riders still pushing the limits, and the crowds at depleted numbers.  The finals of the MotoGP resulted in reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi finishing second, and current sixth-place points table position-holder Colin Edwards (both Yamaha) finishing third. European riders were at a disadvantage here – and even the World Champion had no answer to the local expertise shown by Hayden and Edwards around the twists and turns of this tricky track.  American and local favorite Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda RC211V) shone at his home race with a maiden pole and a career-first win (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII and the last event for my now sold Canon 200 f/1.8L USM with Canon 2X extender)

10.1.05 -  California International 2004 Air show in Salinas, California (http://www.salinasairshow.com) came flying back into the area, and with all the trips planned this year, was the only air show we could get to.  Headed down with Dayna and Brian to see the Thunderbirds in action...and would you have guessed it, yup, low cloud layer caused the Birds to cancel their late afternoon performance (for those in the betting pool and keeping count, that is TWO years in a row that Salinas has screwed us over on the main event).  Spending 45minutes watching Truckasaurus putt back and forth definitely did not seem worth the trade off.  However, the F18 demonstrations did prove to be worth the price of admission as for the first time, we got to see the Fluid dynamic effects of a jet going close to the sound barrier - awesome.   (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII and my brand spankin new arrival , the Canon 300 f/2.8L USM)

2.7.06 -  The Call went out....Twenty Four Surfers answered, and Feb 7th was the day for the 2006 Mavericks Big surf contest at Half Moon Bay, California (http://www.maverickssurf.com/Home).  With the missed opportunity last year on capturing some images, I made sure I was properly equipped this year.  Calling in sick for the morning of work, decided what better way to work off a cold, then to head on out to the break bright and early at 8am with Mabelle, Sean, and Jeff  (little did we know, that others decided to get there at 4am...).  We managed to  staked out a great spot perched  up on the cliffs overlooking Mavericks.  And even with around 600mm of zoom, you quickly learn, "dang, they are hella far out there."  Nonetheless, we paid witness to Men surfing giants that morning.  Grant “Twiggy” Baker of Durban, South Africa took home the win, a $30,000 paycheck.  Tyler Smith of Santa Cruz took second and $10,000; Brock Little, of Hawaii, third and $5,000; Matt Ambrose of Pacifica, fourth and $4,000; Grant Washburn of San Francisco, fifth and $3,500; and Evan Slater of San Clemente, sixth and $2,500.  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII and my brand spankin new arrival , the Canon 300 f/2.8L USM)

5.20.06 - Santa Barbara AVP rolled around, so went with the Vball group down to SB for the weekend.  Great weekend as usual, and even met up with Brad and Jae - We also got to see Jae square off against Chuck Liddell over at O'Mallys - that was hilarious.  Don't think any of us guys could have pulled that off.  Todd Rogers / Phil Dalhausser (4) def. John Hyden / Jeff Nygaard (7) 21-18, 21-15 (0:57).  Misty May-Treanor / Kerri Walsh (1) def. Elaine Youngs / Rachel Wacholder (2) 21-14, 21-14 (0:58).  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII and Canon 70-200 f/2.8L USM)

7.21.06 - 2006 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix back in town (http://www.redbullusgrandprix.com/).  Since the 2005 MotoGP was such a blast to check out, decided to head down on Friday to Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca to avoid the huge crowds of actual race day - the practice sessions are exciting in their own right as the riders jockey for race position.  Frank, Lowe, and myself headed down to take in the event.  This time, even managing to find an area off limits just at the head of the corkscrew.  That location provided a great vantage point down the top of the turn, that is, until we were found out and asked to vacate the area.  Otherwise, for the second year in a row American Nicky Hayden thrilled the massive home crowd by reigning supreme at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. While Hayden’s 2005 victory at the event was the landmark first MotoGP win of his career, this year’s triumph may prove even more pivotal and rewarding in the grand scheme of things. The Kentuckian’s stunning performance saw him take a major step forward in his quest to be named 2006 MotoGP World Champion.  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII and Canon 300 f/2.8L USM)

5.19.07 - Decided to take a trip down to LA with Dayna to take in the 2007 Hermosa Beach AVP.  It was a great weekend to take in with my girl as the weekend weather was perfect and Dayna and I had a blast - aways good to have a good patient partner to travel with!!  Dinner at Scotty's on the Strand was great too.  It proved to also be a huge milestone for Misty May as well since her win marked No. 73 for the reigning, two-time MVP and broke a tie with Holly McPeak for most titles by a woman in professional beach volleyball.  Dayna and I even got a bunch of shirts that the AVP handed out for the awards ceremony, which two went on ebay for $10 I may add - hahaha.  Earning her 70th title was Walsh, who ranks third all-time.  Huge victory for them.  Also part of the event was a celebrity charity game.  In between matches ofsn Sunday, Eva Longoria, Carlos Mencia and Amaury Nolasco were a few of the numerous celebrities that took court in what could only be described as jungle ball mixed in with some pros.  The game raised money for PADRES Contra El Cancer, which brings awareness for childhood cancer.  Good fun for a good cause - the El Pollo Loco commercial guy was there too, hahaha.  Phil and Todd took down Olson and Ring in the men's final - Karaly and Wong took a fifth.  May and Walsh took down Turner and Wacholder for the women's side.  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkII and Canon 70-200 f/2.8L USM)

6.30.07 Congratulations to Silvia and Mike on their awesome wedding day!  The ceremony was over at Memorial church at Stanford, plenty of volleyball friends in attendance (and ever saw Paul playing doubles out on the oval prior to the ceremony!) - After the beautiful ceremony, we headed up to San Francisco where we checked into the reception host hotel where the real party got started.  Something about open bar really brings out the love at a wedding, and this was definitely no exception as the pictures can show!  Love ya guys, and congratulations on a perfect couple - thanks for having us be part of your special day! (Shot with Canon SD30)

9.25.07 Happy Birthday JEFF!  Decided to take everyone's favorite Asian Cowboy out to the ball park to take in the Giants beating the Padres.  History will say that the Padres beat the Giants in the end with a 4-6 score, but we will choose to remember it for how it really was - The Giants decided to give it away in the end JUST for Jeff's birthday.  We even got his name up on the jumbo screen to commemorate the day.  Granted, I don't think anyone actually got the shot of it (of course) - Happy Birthday duuuuuddeeee (Shot with Canon SD40)

9.29.07 Nvidia Employee Day - Work's annual Fall party is upon us, so Debbie, Sophia, myself, and Dayna came out for the Saturday festivities.  Sophia was soooo patient waiting for her face to get painted - so three corn dogs and numerous chicken tenders later, we finally got it done.  Fun day at the office (Shot with Canon SD30)

2.18.08 - the 119th edition of this Bay area ATP stop was under way, and Debbie got tickets for the second night of play of the SAP Open, however we also got to see an exhibition match between Pete Sampras and Tommy Haas.  As Hass was playing in the tournament and Sampras is in retirement, I have to think that Haas did not go 100%, however, I'll give credit to ol Sampras, he can still play.  We returned the next night to catch Blake def Warburg and then see the Bryan brothers in doubles action taking down Haggard and Reynolds.  Roddick ended up winning the tournament overall with the Bryan brothers coming in second.  Always good times at the tank for tennis.  (Shot with Canon SD30)

4.0L8.08 - So my Mom calls, and says, "Hey, I got some free tickets through work for the Bon Jovi concert coming to San Jose Arena, interested?"  "Sure, I replied, Dayna and I will definitely used them, thanks!"  and my Mom replies, "Great, Dad and I will pick you guys up at 6."  Yup, that's right, my Mom and Dad took Dayna and I to a rock concert - hahahaha.  This was Bon Jovi's only stop as part of the Lost Highway tour, and it really was a blast.  As we got the seats for free, we were actually in seats behind the stage, but ya know, was pretty good seats nonetheless.  Daughtry was the opening act so right from the start, it was loud, fun, and memorable - esp with the parents sitting right next to us - hahaha.  Bon Jovi puts on a great show, and the duet of Blaze of Glory with Daughtry was one of the best.  Didn't take too many shots with the trusty SD30 since it was pretty low light in there, and unfortunately, the concert proved to be the SD30's last trip out.  Apparently when you put the camera into a cup of beer that you thought was in the OTHER cup holder in the seat in front of you, it does not respond well.  RIP lil portable Canon who served me well over the years..."Oohhhh, we're half way theeerreee, ohhh, OH, Living on a Prayer" (Shot with, and ended the life of, the Canon SD30)

5.17.08 Dayna's Na Wai Ola Halau (http://www.nawaiola.com/index.html) presents, Ho'ike 2008 at their outdoor venue at West Valley College.  This was the first event of theirs that Dayna participated in, so the family was sure not to miss it.  It was a pretty hot day, and the tribes in attendance started to get restless for the gates to open.  Once allowed in, everyone was treated to Hawaiian food, keiki games, and Aloha vendors, and lots and lots (and I Do mean, LOTS) of music.  This seemed more like a concert than a Hula show!  Although the event went well into the late evening, it was great sitting out with family to take the event in and watch Dayna Hula - Thanks Dayna!!  Hana hou!!! (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 70-200 f/2.8L USM)

6.07.08 - Fight against Cancer - what could be a better cause?  The 2008, Dragon Boat Paddle for Life over at Jack London Square was held June 7th and 8th (Paddle for Life).  Debbie's Dragon boat team, the Bay Area Dragons (BAD), organized and donated boats, coaches and money to the worthy cause.  Through many months of hard training prior to the event, Debbie took a crew of fresh paddlers through training and discipline to be ready for the rough waters ahead.  Dayna answered the call as she was one of the chosen few (okay, few were turned away - but whatever).  Vinny and Doreen joined me to head up to watch the event and cheer on Debbie and Dayna in their races - Sophia, Dad and Mom were on hand as well.  Was a great day out in Oakland and the spirit and energy around the event was awesome to see.  Great work Dayna and Debbie, and know that in the end, you worked over that cub scout team like they were, well, kids... (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and MarkII with Canon 300 f/2.8L USM, Canon 17-40 f/4.0L USM)

6.29.08 San Francisco Gay Pride Parade (http://www.sfpride.org/)!  Equality for all was the focal point for this year's celebration given the debate that rages on for Gay marriage rights.  Sean and Sophia joined me and Dayna on catching BART up to San Francisco to take in the festivities.  It was super crowded, but we managed to find a slot along Market that was not too bad, and just in time to catch the middle of the parade.  What a crazy show is an understatement.  There is very little that is not represented at this parade, but what everyone is sure to see is that Gay's really know how to throw an entertaining parade!  Sophia was the second shooter here as seen in the shots, and definitely had interesting looks on her face, but honestly, I think it's just great that she gets exposure to ALL that San Francisco has to offer.  The city also keeps Market Street for sometime after the parade, so it was great just walking down the middle of the road and enjoying the day.  (Shot with the Canon SD40)

7.05.08 (http://elenaandbob.com) Time for the joining of two like souls, Elena Ing and Bob Lamburn - We were definitely not going to miss it, and although it's in Hawai'i, I guess we really couldn't have said no!  We decided to save some money and crash at Casa Petra's house while we were out on the island - Thanks for the accommodations!  There was a reception dinner on Friday at the Wai'oli Tea Room complete with, you guessed it, games.  Key was to connect as many people at the dinner to a list of items and traits that was on a list handed out to everyone - with the added caveat that you cannot put someone's name down if you already knew that quality or trait about the person prior to the dinner.  So it was time to meet some new people!  Was a lot of fun, and yup, yours truly came out on top with Dayna coming in third...quite the social pair we are, I guess...haha.  The wedding was the next day at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in downtown Honolulu and the reception followed at the Moana Surfrider - It was a perfect day for a great couple, and honored that we were invited to pay witness to the union of an amazing couple!  Hanging out with those  California friends and those crazy kids from Seattle was a lot of fun as well.  Way to represent the mainland in force!!!  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and Canon 17-40 f/4.0L USM)

7.18.08 NVISION 2008 (http://www.nvidia.com/content/nvision2008/index.html) rolled around, and I was called upon to help out and assist with photo coverage.  Was cool work assignment, as on the final day of the show, Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage of mythbusters fame were on hand to present their latest build - Their task, demonstrate a one-of-a-kind, never-before-seen, awe-inspiring machine that demonstrated the difference between a GPU and CPU.  Technical aspects aside, what transpired included two robots, thousands of paint balls, a big mess and in one flawless shot, the Mona Lisa.  Check it out! 8.27.08 (http://www.redbullusgrandprix.com/) Dayna and I took the day to head down for the two practice sessions held today, and per usual, it was a bright and sunny day for MotoGP - I spent pretty much the entire day at turns 8 and 9 as Dayna chilled in the shade - I managed to get an over the fence angle on turn 9 , so you'll notice more shots than usual on top of the riders (think i need to remember to pack a folding chair next time!).  Casey Stoner on #27 Ducati picked up where he left off last year by posting up a blistering 1:21.826 lap time to set a new track record.  Fun day down at the track, with Nicky Hyden taking the second fastest for the day, and Rossi rounding out third.  On Sunday, Rossi edged out Stoner in an epic battle for his first win ever at Laguna, robbing Stoner of a Hyden-style repeat here at Laguna Seca.  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and Canon 300 f/2.8L USM)

3.29.09 Carlos' Journey Productions kicked off their 2009 season with a Fashion show at Infusion Lounge off Ellis in San Francisco, and Dayna and I were sure not to miss it.  Appropriately titled, SEX in SF City, the engagement was to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley - so it was all for a good cause.  Yup, that's right, skinny rail thin models showing collections from Victoria Secret, Canyon Beachwear, and Aussie Bum walking for food - its poetic irony really... :)  Carlos managed to bring in models from Brazil, New York, Los Angeles, Europe, Asia, and Africa, so it was quite the diversified affair.  Our fellow philanthropists, Vinny, Dowdy, Kathy, and Sean joined us for the VIP show as well as the after party held on site.  The free champagne dried up rather quickly, but with good friends and loose wallets around, the party was kept alive.  Thanks for coming out, folks, and know that it helped to keep some hungry families fed, and the friends on hand drunk.  We ended the evening with a late night run to Mel's Drive-in.  Good food, good buzz, and oldies playing on the jukebox.  (Shot with the Canon SD40)

7.3.09 The Doctor and the Kentucky Kid came roaring back into Monterey for the 2009 RedBull MotoGP race at Laguna Seca.   (http://www.redbullusgrandprix.com/).  And this year was a biggie since it landed on July 4th weekend.  Since we had the day off, Dayna and I headed down on Friday for the day to catch the practice rounds.  Rossi toped Friday's results by turning in a 1:21:981 as his final lap.  After watching most of the practice rounds from the corkscrew and turns 8 and 9, Dayna and I met up with Paul, Fabi, and Ramon over at Ducati island and took a walk with them backstage in the "special pit access area."  That was a blast - it's all about knowing the right people - and the big lens helped of course to gain a bit more access than normal.  Over at Ducati island we also ran into our favorite Top Chef, Fabio, so Dayna and I were excited to meet him as well - Great photo op, and what a nice guy.  Great finish to a fun day.  Sunday's start positions were determined on Saturday's qualifying race, and despite Lorenzo crashing twice on Saturday, he managed to tack up a 1:21:678 lap to take pole, with Rossi posting a 1:21:845 for second and the lone American, Casey, posting 1:21:910 for third.  Dayna and I actually took Friday night and Saturday morning off to spend the night at the Half Moon Bay Ritz (surprise from Dayna - what an awesome wife!).  Man, what a great weekend, huh?  We actually did not have plans on heading back to the races for Sunday's final, but an early morning call Sunday morning from Paul got us up as he hooked us up with some VIP passes, so we got our butts down there in a flash - and what a great decision that was!  Dayna and I got there just in time for start of the race, and this was definitely a special day as we got lined up with Track Access courtesy of Ramon - That's right, this year I got to shoot the finals from "inside" of turn 2 - What a dream location to shoot from as the only thing between me and the race was my camera and a few feet of grass space!  I am already looking forward to next year!!  Also, for all the years we have checked out the race, this year we stuck around  to watch the awards presentation.  We also took time after the race to cruise the paddock and trailer area, so that made for some great shots with the riders and "Super Fans" Ramon, Fabi, Paul, and Crew.  Oh, and the final results, Pedrosa riding #3 Honda took home the win (44:1.580) with a great battle against #46 Rossi on Fiat-Yamaha (44:1.924).  An injured Lorenzo riding #99 Fiat-Yamaha rounded out the podium (44:3.506).  Great great year.  Sorry for the shots being somewhat out of order - photography reminder, sync your two camera bodies prior to shooting...(Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 1D MarkII and Canon 300 f/2.8L USM, Canon 17-40 f/4.0L USM)

7.16.09 Our wedding photographers, Jade Studio Productions (http://www.jadestudioproductions.com/) hosted an invitation only Launch party at their new studio on Treasure Island in San Francisco.  We were sure not to miss it.  Jeff and Helen were in town as well and headed up with us too, but you probably couldn't tell from the shots here since they were off mingling with the rest of the crowd, and even managed to run into some friends in attendance as welll - small world.  Tom and Karen let us know that they were going to stop by, so we were sure to find em and catch up and get the scoop on their new baby girl.  James Kyson Lee of hero fame, and Former Mayor Willie Lewis Brown Jr were part of the celebrities on hand to help officially launch Philippe and Soojin's studio.  Congrats to Jade Studio - not only are they unparalleled photographers, but they throw a great party as well!  (Shot with the Canon SD40)

8.2.09 - the 15th Annual San Francisco Aloha Festival was up at the San Francisco Presidio this weekend, so we headed up on Sunday to get our Aloha on.  After meeting up with Lance and Maggie for breakfast, the Hawai'i contingency of Me, Dayna+Baby, Kevin, Celine, Keona, Sean, Debbie, Sophia, and Doreen got up to the parade grounds around 230pm.  Always a good time checking out the vendors, food, and Hula performances by all the brown people of the bay area - this Festival is Dayna's home away from home.  Also one of the more entertaining Hula performances I have seen closed out the festival - Kumu Mark Keali`i Ho`omalu gave us a great performance with his Academy of Hawaiian Arts group to cap off the day.  Keona broke free of a case of the shy's and was off running and playing with Sophia in no time - after that, there was no stopping em!  On the way out, check out the shot of the artillery shell, range of 25miles!  We also ran into the lil pup there, named Chance, in the parking lot.  He was the only one alive from an abandoned litter of pups, so perfect name for a lil guy with a second shot!  Afterwards what better and natural way to celebrate Hawai'i then with dinner at a Swiss Fondue place, it's such a natural connection, right?  Check out  Matterhorn in San Francisco, its no La Fondue, but good times nonetheless!  Mom and Dad were in SF as well and ended up joining us there too.  (Just watch out for Wu's and their Parking as evident in the last picture!)  Aloooohhhaaa!!!   (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 17-40 f/4.0L USM)

8.15.09 - Our Man Lance is getting married, so we needed to take him away from the hustle of Wedding duties.  James/Zanger/Stubbs/Dowdy/Clint and I planned a houseboat weekend up on Lake Don Pedro (http://www.donpedrolake.com/index.htm) out by Yosemite.  On Saturday morning, after picking up Clint from the airport, Dowdy and I headed up to grab the man of the weekend.  That was quite a surprise for em as Maggie had run distraction and told em they were going away for the weekend - We were going to do it Old School style with the black van and nylon masks, but figured, it might be too much for the old guy and didn't want to start the weekend getting his ticker checked out.  James and Pete got to the lake early and cruised through the orientation ahead of us, so once we got there, we were off and running.  Pete expertly captained us en route around the lake and docked us at a cove where we spent the rest of the day and night  jumping into the lake, watching the wake boarders crash, drinking, smoking, farting, belching, pissing, getting sick, and just about anything you would expect a group such as this to do without their lady accompaniments around.  Great times with the boys with trip highlights posted up here.  Note that you are on your own for exercising your judgment (or lack there off) to view the following pics.  Not all are suitable for all ages (or maturity levels), so go and censor your own kids.  Happy Bachelor Weekend, Lance - Now will someone pass me the damn Tylenol, please  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 17-40 f/4.0L USM)

9.6.09 - The Big day finally arrived.  Lance and Maggie got married (about time that girl made a honest man out of Lance) - Beautiful ceremony over at Wente Winery in Livermore with absolutely perfect weather.  The event made for a great weekend with friends near and far who came up for the party.  Official shots were handled by the pro, Marlin Lum, who's team was absolutely awesome (nothing wrong with a shameless plug for my cousin here - http://www.marlinlum.com/client_lounge/maggie_lance/maggie_lance.html).  Thanks Maggie and Lance for allowing us to be part of a great experience (where's the pork chop though!!) - Also, Dayna and I found it nice to be at a wedding where we could actually eat and drink too - sorry if we did not mingle as much as we should as we were camped by the kitchen where the hors d'oeuvres came out!  Dowdy, you should have made a move, you know what I'm talking about, Vinny, great work with the camera, and Judy, always the perfect photo model.  Congrats newlyweds!  Man, who are those good looking guys in the tux's?!  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

7.4.10 - Our first 4th of July with Cameron, so thought would be great to see the San Francisco Symphony concert at Shoreline.  Mom and Dad were free as well, so accompanied us at the show.  Great evening out on the grass, next time we bring food and drinks for a full picnic - Next year, we wait out the crowd more as we leave since its an absolute zoo trying to get out of there after the show.  Insert shot here is Cam with her headphones on for the fireworks show :) (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

8.14.10 - Kathy and Nate came with us to the Giants and Padres game at ATT Park.  Was a great game, although we did forget to pack a hat for Cameron, so had to throw down the $16 for a lil Giants Slugger one - is okay, we're helping to fund their run to the playoffs.  Dad had a great time with friends and beers, and Cameron had a great time seeing people run around and cheer for seemingly no real good reason.  Huge game win for the Giants though (Sorry Jeff) - Buster Posey hustled to second on a chopper in the 11th and scored on Juan Uribe's single, giving the Giants a 3-2 walk-off win and cut the NL West lead to 2 1/2 games - Do I sense a World Series run coming up?  We also cruised around the stadium afterwards for some fun shots - great day at the park!  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

9.25.10 - The Mountain View Fire station held its annual pancake breakfast fundraiser for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation today, so Sean and Sophia came with us to give to a worthy cause.  Was a nice day out complete with a great breakfast, some fire fighting demonstrations (Pull! Aim! Squeeze! Sweep!), and chance to meet some really great individuals in the community  - Sophia even got to hit some targets with the fire hose!  We'll be back next year (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

10.27.10 - First Sharks game for Cameron here, and went with Lance to see the Sharks take on the Devils.  She had a blast at the game and took every shot, check, and fight in stride - welcome to the world of Hockey.  FINAL NJD (2) - SJS (5) with scores from Thornton, Marleau, and Heatley  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

11.28.10 - International Car show comes to San Francisco for the week, so took the family and Dad up to check out the new rides.  Vinny was free and wanted to check out the show so he headed up with us as well.  Turns out that Cameron is not a Volvo lover (See 6P6D1116) but definitely did not mind picking out the right Porsche or BMW that suits her - looks like I'm in for a world of hurt when this lil girls starts asking about a car.  Standout rides were the Lexus LFA, Porsche Panamera and GT, and the ever sexy R8 Spyder - We agreed that since the Fiat is not quite Vinny's fit, he'll go with the LFA and I'll pick up the R8 - sounds fair.  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

1.2.11 - Got great tickets to the San Francisco versus Arizona game @ Candlestick Park.  Pulled together Lance and Vinny to join us for the game - it was a conference game between two last place teams way out of contention, the 49ers were on the heels of firing Singletary so had Tomsula in as head coach, and the expectation was cold rain throughout the day.  We prepared for the worst (well Lance was at least in his crab fishing waterproof gear, Vinny, well, at least he brought an umbrella); however, the game proved to be a blast as the weather stayed dry, and the game fun to watch.  Cameron, for her first 49er game, was rocking the winter hat and proved to continue to be awesome and engaged at sporting events.  She also earned the ultimate fan status as she even brought luck to San Francisco who ended up routed Arizona to the tune of 38-7.  Alex Smith even threw for 276 yards and 2 TD's  - although he still got boo'd - good luck at your next franchise, Alex!  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 17-40 f/4.0L USM)

1.3.11 - Sharks versus Vancouver, Row 1 seats 8 and 9 = awesome.  Got tickets on the glass to Cameron's first UP close and Personal view of the game, this round against visiting Vancouver.  Cameron had a great time and didn't even flinch once as pucks, Sharks and Canucks alike were thrown into the boards right in front of us.  I definitely believe I have a sports gal on my hands here - she just loves going to games.  Overall, the game was great, getting right down at the action level is just a great way to catch a game.  Although looking at the final scoreboard, scores by Sedin, Edler, Hansen, and Burrows proved to be too much as the scores by Clowe, Marleau, and Mayers came up just short.  This was officially Cameron's first loss for the home team where she was in attendance - she's still confused on what losing means :) - Special fan appreciation shout out to Arnulfo Aguirre (Team massage therapist) who handed Cameron a game puck as well - Go Sharks!  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

4.9.11 - SFO held an open house showing of their new $383 million Terminal 2 so we called up Mom to join us.  The big hubbub was about T2's green initiatives with reduced carbon emissions, sustainable features such as skylights, water-conserving plumbing, paperless ticketing, sustainable building materials, and energy efficient lighting.  The architecture and design of the new terminal were impressive and a lot of fun walk around.  The next opportunity to do so would require a purchased flight on American or Virgin out of SFO.  The terminal also attracted renowned chefs Cat Cora, Tyler Florence and others to add their name as available food options, although we decided to forgo the big names and just get noodle bowls for lunch.  Fun day at the airport.  Whenever I walk around an airport, the theme song of the 80s movie of the same name always rings in my mind.  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 17-40 f/4.0L USM)

4.16.11 - Time for the Annual Los Gatos Easter Egg Hunt.  We heard about the even from some friends of ours and was definitely worth the parking hassle to attend.  Sophia came with us to to participate in the "bigger" kid egg hunt as well.  Complete with petting zoo and games, the morning was a blast for our little egg hunter.  It was hilarious to see the young kids sitting in the grass wondering what the whole commotion about these little eggs was all about.  We'll be back next year!  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 24-70 f/2.8L USM)

5.21.11 - Monterey Sustainable Seafood Challenge was in town as part of the 2011 Cooking for Solutions event at the Monterey Aquarium.  Dayna and I were excited to see some Chefs from Top Chef taking on the challenge, namely Bryan Voltaggio, Casey Thompson and Carla Hall.  The Monterey Plaza Hotel played host for the event, and we were sure to get there early to get great seats and even talk a bit with Chef Voltaggio.  Dayna was extra excited as famed island Chef Sam Choy was on hand to help judge the event as well.  We got to talk story with Chef Choy after the event, and even had us walk out with some hand picked fruit and bottle of Brandy.  Hey, when Chef personally picks out items for you, you do not say No!  Aloha Chefs!  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 85 f/1.2L USM)

10.29.11 - Chef Alan Wong and Hawaii food historian Arnold Hiura were in San Francisco today as part of their California tour bringing Hawaiian cuisine back to the Bay area.  Dayna, Cameron and I headed out to the Ferry Building Marketplace to see him in action.  We also got him to sign our copy of Chef's latest book, the Blue Tomato (http://thebluetomato.net/) that we picked up when we were last out as his restaurant.  Not just an ex-employer of Dayna's, he is also a gracious Chef (although Cameron refused to be held by em - I guess she'll eat his food, but won't let him hold her) and a great representative of Aloha.  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 85 f/1.2L USM)

4.7.12 - Easter Party  (Shot with Canon 1D MarkIII and 85 f/1.2L USM)
